Alcoy police seize marijuana plants

The Alcoy police uprooted 41 fully-grown marijuana plants in sitio Libo, barangay Lepanto, Alegria town, last Friday night.

SPO1 Nestor Bayang of the Alcoy police yesterday said that his colleagues were able to arrest a certain Miguel Cabanog, 62, a resident of the said place, allegedly the cultivator of the said marijuana plants that were found a mere 15 meters away from his house.

Cabanog's arrest came after a barangay tanod happened to pass by his place last Monday and noticed the marijuana plants.

Barangay Lepanto is a mountain barangay about 18 kilometers from the town proper and serves as the boundary between Alcoy town and Alegria town.

Bayang said his colleagues left the police station at around 7 p.m. last Friday to make sure that Cabanog was around when they came for the plants.

All marijuana plants were brought to the police station for proper disposition while Cabanog was detained. He is set to be charged for cultivating marijuana tomorrow.

Last Thursday night, the Barili police also arrested Sixto Navarro, 49, after the police received tips that he was cultivating marijuana in his farm. - Flor Z. Perolina
