The Talisay City Development Council has approved development projects that amount to almost P35 million. The projects, however, and their corresponding fund allocation, still need to be approved by the city council before these can be implemented.
Mayor Socrates Fernandez, chairman of the city development council, said the city is all set to implement various projects under the 2006 Annual Investment Plan, which includes the construction of the new fish port, purchase of lots for resettlement sites and the solid waste management program.
A total of P3 million has been allocated for the construction of the fish port while P12 million has been appropriated for the purchase of lots for the resettlement area for squatters. The amount also includes the construction of housing units and facilities in the resettlement site. A total of P8 million has been allocated for the city's solid waste management program.
Some P5 million has also been appropriated for the maintenance and repair of public buildings and the acquisition of new equipment to be used in the implementation of infrastructure undertakings, while P2.2 million has been earmarked for the repair and maintenance of drainage and rehabilitation of artesian wells. The repair of various roads and bridges in the city has been allocated P4 million and livelihood programs for farmers and fishermen were given a P1.6 million appropriation. - Garry B. Lao
