Akrho man shot dead in barangay Tejero

A teacher who is an Alpha Kappa Rho member was shot dead by two men in barangay Tejero yesterday morning in what could be another fraternity-related violence besetting the city.

Alvin Aragis, 30, an elementary school teacher on Olango Island, was having drinks with his girlfriend, Marchie Caberte, along Alviola Street, Villagonzalo 2 around 2 a.m. when the incident happened.

The attackers, one of whom reportedly covered his face with a handkerchief, called for the victim and shot him when he approached them. Aragis was hit on the head and died instantly.

Homicide investigation chief Mario Monilar said there are indications that the incident was fraternity-related because the victim was an active Akrho member.

Yesterday afternoon, a rival Tau Gamma Phi member, Glen Codinera, showed up at the police Homicide Section to voluntarily undergo paraffin test to clear his name. Monilar said Codinera was allegedly one of those who attacked Aragis.

If Aragis' death turned out to be fraternity related, he would be the 25th victim of the rivalry involving the two groups since January. - Ryan P. Borinaga
