Victim no. 105?: Man with shady past killed in Mambaling
November 18, 2005 | 12:00am
Two unidentified men gunned down a man with an alleged shady past in sitio Huyong-huyong, barangay Mambaling yesterday morning
Police are looking into personal grudge as motive of the killing, but they are not ruling out the possible involvement of the so-called vigilantes in the incident.
The victim was identified as Rogelio Ligan, 30, whom Homicide Section investigator Julius Mabunay said had been detained at the Bagong Buhay Rehabilitation Center for illegal drugs.
The victim reportedly had a standing warrant of arrest for robbery, but Homicide Section chief Mario Monilar said they have yet to verify it.
Monilar said they are looking into personal grudge as the cause of the killing because Ligan was reportedly involved in an altercation with a man few days ago.
A witness said about 5:15 a.m. yesterday, he heard a burst of gunfire and then saw a man wearing a white shirt hurriedly fleeing toward a waiting motorcycle.
He then found the victim sprawled on the basketball court, prompting him to ask for help from neighbors who immediately brought the victim to the Cebu City Medical Center, where he died few minutes later.
Police were also not discounting the possibility that Ligan's killing was drug related, as he was detained before due to shabu possession.
But if his murder was the handiwork of suspected vigilantes, Ligan could be the 105th victim of summary executions rocking the city since December. - Ryan P. Borinaga
