Farmer arrested for rape attempt

A 64-year-old farmer was arrested Tuesday morning in barangay Cabantug, Argao town for attempting to rape his 10-year-old neighbor in May.
During police questioning, the suspect, identified as Saluciano Mamac, told police that he hid at the house of his relative in Mandaue City after the incident.
Police reports said the victim was alone in their house on May 1 when the suspect accosted her. He attempt to rape the victim, however, failed when another neighbor, Manuel Lina, noticed the commotion inside the house and caught the suspect.
Mamac fled immediately after the incident. But his arrest came after he returned home on All Souls' Day and was seen by the victim's mother who reported his presence to the police.
The court has set P200,000 bail for Mamac's temporary liberty. - Norvie S. Misa
