Out for revenge, man gets killed instead

-
Out to get revenge, a suspected thief and robber ended up dead instead last Saturday in sitio Alaska, barangay Mambaling, yesterday morning.

The victim, identified as John Carlo Sanchez was shot by his neighbor Nestor Repaso after Sanchez allegedly attacked him first.

Police are not sure what prompted Sanchez to attack Nestor. Nestor's son Jackson, 18, even said Sanchez has been his friend and neighbor since they were kids.

But Jackson also said Sanchez might have heard about his heated argument with another friend of Sanchez a few days prior, and decided to take his anger out on Nestor.

Jackson did not elaborate the reason behind the argument.

At about 10 a.m. yesterday, Sanchez along with three other friends went to the house of the Repasos where they came upon Nestor who was emerging from the house.

When he saw Nestor, Sanchez allegedly shot at him without so much as a word, hitting him in the back.

Despite his injuries, Nestor ran into the house and got a .38 cal. revolver he borrowed from a neighbor who earlier warned him that Sanchez may come looking for him.

Nestor came out again and fired at Sanchez, hitting him in the chest. Sanchez and his friends tried to escape but Nestor chased them and then fired at Sanchez again, hitting him in the mouth.

Sanchez fell for the last time and was brought to the Cebu City Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival.

Nestor surrendered right away to the responding policemen from the Mobile Patrol Group and is now confined at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.

Carbon police chief Doroteo Mantos, who used to be assigned as station commander of Mambaling, confirmed that Sanchez was a suspected robber who allegedly preyed on jeepney passengers. - Ryan P. Borinaga
