Equipment supposed to be donated to the Lapu-Lapu Police Special Weapons and Tactics team would seem more appropriate with the fire department instead, said a Lapu-Lapu City councilor recently.
The Lapu-Lapu City council has passed a resolution authorizing Mayor Arturo Radaza to accept the donation of a stainless water cannon nozzle and a battering ram donated by Keppel Cebu Shipyard Inc. for the SWAT team.
Councilor Alley Berdin introduced the resolution after Mayor Radaza requested them to grant him authority to accept the donation.
Before the approval of the resolution, councilor Eugene Espedido asked why it was going to the SWAT team rather than the city fire department, he clarified he is not opposing the donation but suggested the equipment should be used by the fire department instead.
Berdin said the equipment was meant to be used during riots.
