October 27, 2005 | 12:00am
A shooting incident in barangay Ermita Tuesday night was suspected as another act of vigilantes but this time the result was different.
Twenty-five-year-old Arcelino Mainit, tagged by police sources as the "leader of thieves and robbers" in Ermita, was walking along M.C. Briones Avenue at past 8 p.m. when an unidentified man approached and shot him.
Mainit was hit on his chin but he survived and is now confined at the Cebu City Medical Center.
An intelligence operative, interviewed by The Freeman, said Mainit has been in and out of the Bagong Buhay Rehabilitation Center and among his contemporaries who are still in jail are Rowen "Yawa" Secretaria and Roswel Pugoy.
Tuesday morning before he was shot, Mainit was identified as the one who allegedly robbed a woman of her mobile phone worth P3,000 at Unit 3 in Carbon Market. - Ryan P. Borinaga
