Ombuds probing vigilante killings
October 7, 2005 | 12:00am
The Ombudsman is conducting its own investigation into the spate of summary executions in the city.
Ombudsman-Visayas director Virginia Santiago said they had asked for the list of victims from regional police director Edgardo Gador, but the list was incomplete.
The Ombudsman's foray into the vigilante killing investigation followed after Deputy Ombudsman Primo Miro said he wanted "something" on extra-judicial killings in the city and to hold those liable public officials.
Santiago said their probe, which will be in full force next week, would concentrate not only on the victims but on other persons involved as well. She said Deputy Ombudsman for Military Orlando Casimiro had also directed them to conduct the investigation and to follow what his office did in the case of Davao City, which had more vigilante victims than Cebu City.
But as of the moment, Santiago said they could not reveal what actions they would take to avoid any misinterpretations. - Liv G. Campo
