Talisay City Council wants Sta. Lucia's permit revoked

The Talisay City Council yesterday sought for the temporary revocation of Sta. Lucia Realty's permit following a heavy landslide and flooding allegedly caused by its development project in barangay Lagtang.

In his motion, Councilor Alan Bucao said the revocation of Sta. Lucia's permit stemmed from the complaint filed by at least 60 residents and the Lagtang council asking for a stop to the firm's project.

Bucao said Sta. Lucia should outline measures to prevent mudslides in the areas affected by its project. He also asked the city engineering department and the city planning and development coordinator to submit a report on the matter.

Aside from the mudslides, the residents also complained that the project has blocked the access road, which serves as vital link to the barangay proper, following the landslide.

Lagtang barangay captain Celiapo Cabuenas said the city should immediately act on the problem because it greatly affects his constituents.

CPDC officer Christine Homez, who inspected the project, observed that the developer's silt dam was already filled, fearing that the water might overflow toward the lowlands. - Garry B. Lao
