SC dismisses court server from work

The Supreme Court dismissed a court server in Dumaguete City for being absent without leave since July last year.

Associate Justice Minita V. Chico-Nazario who penned the decision said Jayson S. Tayros, assigned with the Regional Trial Court (RTC) branch 31 in Dumaguete City deserves the penalty of dismissal from the service with forfeiture of benefits.

The ruling said "Time and again, this Court has made the pronouncement that any act which falls short of the exacting standards for public office, especially on the part of those expected to preserve the image of the judiciary, shall not be countenanced."

Without filing a leave of absence, Tayros did not report to his job effective July last year, which prompted the SC to declare his post as vacant.

"Public office is a public trust. Public officers must at all times be accountable to the people, serve them with utmost degree of responsibility, integrity, loyalty and efficiency," the SC ruled.

The Omnibus Civil Service Rules and Regulations provides that an official or an employee who is continuously absent without an approved leave for at least 30 days shall be separated from the service without prior notice. - Rene U. Borromeo
