A male high school senior suffered five stab wounds in his body after eight teenagers attacked him while he was walking with a friend along Osmeña Boulevard, near the city sports complex, at past 6 p.m. last Friday.
The unidentified assailants quickly fled from the area while the victim, Wayne Fuentes Patricio II, was immediately taken to the Vicente Sotto Medical Center by Virgilio Tabasa, a guard of the nearby Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas where the victim's friend ran for help.
The victim, a student of the Abellana National High School, recalled that his assailants were those he had a taunting bout with, exchanging dirty fingers with them while rooting for their respective teams vying in an athletic event earlier that day inside the sports complex.
The victim told the police that while he and his friend were strolling outside the complex late afternoon that day, he saw the group again and even if he did not know them he approached and tried to make peace with them.
One of them however punched him instead forcing him and his friend into a fight, but one of them pulled out a knife and stabbed him.
Meanwhile, a Minglanilla policemen were almost hit by gunfire from an unidentified man who shot at them from behind while they were conducting an anti-illegal drug operation in sitio Bantayan, barangay Tungkop, Minglanilla, last Friday night.
Minglanilla police chief, Insp. Carlos Reyes, said he and his four policemen first arrived at the place where an informant tipped them off that seven men were having a pot session nearby.
But as they got there, the assailant suddenly appeared from behind them and started shooting at them. The policemen quickly sought cover but a bullet still grazed the leg of PO2 Roland Camilo. The assailant quickly fled but the shooting gave the seven drug users the chance to escape, leaving behind the drug paraphernalia they were using.
Reyes said investigation is being conducted to identify and arrest the assailant and the seven drug users. The police operations against illegal drug activities in the area will continue, the police chief vowed. - Ryan P. Borinaga and Flor Z. Perolina
