Governor Gwendolyn Garcia turned over yesterday morning the second batch of 12 military jeeps to the Cebu Provincial Police Office.
The turn-over came just a day after the re-installation of former CPPO director P/Supt Vicente Loot.
The 12 jeeps will be used for patrolling the 12 municipalities including the towns of San Francisco, Pilar, Madridejos, Carmen, Catmon, Danao city, Alegria, Ronda, Carcar, Sibonga, Balamban, and the CPPO.
The jeeps were turned over to the respective town mayors. She said another batch of military jeeps is arriving.
Governor Garcia said that most town mayors are hoping that additional cops be assigned to their respective places but there is a need for the provincial government to address the needs of the police especially concerning the mobility and the communication system.
She said that installation of the communication system is underway as all 47 town police stations will each be given one base radio. The province is also set to buy five repeaters for Cebu, one for Bohol, and another for Negros province.
The provincial government will retain ownership of the vehicles but the maintenance will be shouldered by town mayors.
Aside from the mobility and communication assistance, Vice Governor Gregorio Sanchez, who also attended the turnover ceremony, said he will accompany Garcia to Japan on September 11 to receive a donation of 12 fire trucks and 5 ambulances to the province.
