Talisay City councilor Ritchel Bacaltos, chairman of the Junior Drug Watch, said the drug test in Lagtang was in response to a barangay resolution following reports that a Lagtang "councilman" has always been spotted in Tangke, a known shabu area.
Bacaltos said he would coordinate with the National Bureau of Investigation in the drug test, which is part of the move to establish a "drug-free workplace" in the barangay.
A recent police report showed that Tangke tops the list of barangays in the city seriously affected by the illegal drugs, which are also threatening Lagtang.
Since the test would cost about P300 each for the eight Lagtang councilmen, including the Sangguniang Kabataan chairman, the council requested the city government to shoulder the expenses.
Bacaltos said those barangay officials found positive in the test would face charges. - Garry B. Lao
