Motorcycle in bank rob recovered

-
Police last night recovered in barangay Cogon, Bogo a motorcycle-the second getaway vehicle used in the P9.4-million Land Bank-Bogo robbery last August 2.

The motorcycle, without a plate number, was found in the house of a certain Henry Dy, identified as the father of Danny Dy who is the brother-in-law of Ceferino Serbano, one of the twelve robbery suspects. It was the second getaway vehicle the police had recovered, the first was the maroon Nissan Vanette (plate no. CLA-333) recovered from an abandoned building of the DPWH in Bogo last week.

Serbano, an alumnus of the Philippine Military Academy who now owns Philways Construction, owned both vehicles, authorities said. Danny Dy was working also with the construction firm, which has projects in Bogo. It was also confirmed that the firm has been using the motorcycle.

However, Provincial Special Operations Group chief Juanito Enguerra still refused to comment whether Serbano, he earlier said was his classmate at the PMA, is now being considered as the prime suspect of the robbery.

Enguerra yesterday said Joel Somabong, the group's alleged leader, was allegedly the one who drove the motorcycle in fleeing from the bank after the robbery.

The trail to the recovery of the motorcycle started when authorities found Danny Dy as the caretaker of the Vanette. They then invited him for questioning at the National Bureau of Investigation. The police later obtained a search warrant from Regional Trial Court-Bogo Judge Antonio Marigomen allowing them to take the motorcycle into police custody last night.

Enguerra also confirmed last night that two other robbery suspects have been identified, and arrest warrants against them were already ready. The two have gone into hiding already but the police said one of them was the suspect previously known only as "Partner" while the other was the driver of the Nissan Vanette.

Witnesses have already submitted their affidavits to the police but the names of these suspects would only be released after the police have amended the information of the case filed earlier in court. Last Monday, Serbano posted a P200,000-bail soon after a warrant of arrest was issued against him and Somabang. One of the suspects, Henry Cuerda, the bank's security guard, admitted participation in the robbery.

As this developed, only five of 12 suspects remained unidentified. The provincial police have already launched "Operation Red" to catch the suspects and recover the stolen money if possible. - Flor Z. Perolina
