Lagtang brgy officials okay to drug testing

All barangay officials in Lagtang, Talisay City, are willing to submit themselves to drug testing as way of clearing up reports that one of their councilmen is always seen in barangay Tangke, a reputed "haven of shabu commerce".

During last Wednesday's barangay session, Lagtang barangay captain Celiapo Cabuenas said the barangay unanimously approved that the officials will voluntarily undergo testing.

The council, according to Cabuenas, wants to clear up the rumors and reports during the "Barangayan" program over radio dySS last Saturday where anchorman Lloyd Suarez received text messages that a barangay councilman has always been seen in Tangke.

A police report on barangay drug categorization shows Tangke is on top of the list of barangays already seriously affected by illegal drugs while Lagtang is threatened by illegal drugs.

There are eight barangay councilmen including the Sangguniang Kabataan representative, and since the test would cost approximately P300 each, the council also asked in the same resolution that the city government shoulder the expenses. - Garry B. Lao
