Talisay City backs out from world record try

Talisay City has abandoned its bid to have the world record for the longest line of "kissing" roasted pigs due to monetary constraints, this as the first Inasal Festival was held at the Talisay City Hall ground yesterday.

Councilor Shirley Belleza, chairwoman of the committee on tourism, said the city cannot afford the P25,000 needed for the registration fee for the London-based Guinness World Records as of this time.

"Dako ra kaayo (It's too big), we can't afford," Belleza said.

To try and get into the Guinness records, the event will be documented. These documents, which include reports by the Philippine Geodetic Engineers Association as well as photographic evidence, will then be sent to the offices of the Guinness Book of Records in London.

Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and Provincial Board member Agnes Magpale, who heads the committee on tourism, said the launching of the festival was like a fiesta as Talisay is aiming to become the country's lechon capital.

Garcia said that Cebu has so much to offer in terms of festivity, and Talisay City should be greatly proud in their inasal festival since they are famous for their lechon.

Magpale said Talisay will now be included in the province campaign on tourism, which is dubbed as "Suroy-Suroy sa Sugbo".

The city has spent around P200,000 for the launching.

The Inasal Festival will take place on October 15, on the feast day of Talisay, in which more than 300 roasted pigs will be grilled at junction of Lawaan to San Isidro of the Cebu South Coastal Road.
