An alleged notorious thief in sitio Cambuntan, barangay Bolinawan, Carcar town was shot dead while playing a computer game in a neighbor's backyard yesterday dawn.
Cesar Malabad, 37, was shot once in the head causing his instantaneous death.
SPO1 Joel Pananganan of the Carcar police said residents would always blame Malabad for any theft committed in the neighborhood although he was never charged in court for this misdemeanor. However, he was allegedly a suspect in a murder case in the late 1990's, Pananganan said.
Pananganan scoffs at the insinuation that vigilantes killed Malabad on the basis that his assailant acted alone. Also, Malabad's mother went to the police yesterday morning to say that her son was killed by a certain "Gary." She said this man had held a grudge against her son. - Flor Z. Perolina
