ASEAN drugs body to hold confab here

The ASEAN and China Cooperative Operations in Response to Dangerous Drugs would hold its meeting at the Waterfront Hotel in Lahug starting today and will stretch until tomorrow to discuss progress and developments of the group's plans of action.

The meeting will be spearheaded by the Philippine Dangerous Drugs Board in cooperation with the Cebu City and the Cebu Provincial Government.

Representatives from ASEAN member countries, China, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime as well as the ASEAN secretariat and ambassadors of ASEAN member countries to the Philippines are expected to attend.

On opening day, City Mayor Tomas Osmeña, Councilor Jun Pe, Chairman, Committee on Dangerous Drugs and Gov. Gwen Garcia will attend the meeting.

DDB executive director Dionisio Santiago said the bilateral assistance and preparations for the second ACCORD International Congress will also be discussed in the meeting. Osmeña is pleased that the city has been chosen to host the event. Osmeña, will give his message on the opening day while Gov. Garcia will be the keynote speaker.

The city will host a dinner for the delegates on the today while the province will also host another dinner tomorrow. - Norvie S. Misa, UV-Journalism intern
