Lapu residents want trike fare back at P5
July 29, 2005 | 12:00am
Residents of sitio Matumbo in barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City, filed a petition before the city council over the P2 increase in tricycle fare implemented starting last week.
The city government implemented the increase of tricycle fare based on the recommendation of the City Traffic Management System.
A petition signed by 127 residents said the P2 fare increase is "grossly affecting their economic condition and the riding public in the place".
They want it rolled back to P5.
Specifically, they asked for reconsideration from the city council regarding the fare increase for the route Matumbo in Barangay Pusok and Public Market in barangay Poblacion.
They said under the city ordinance, an increase of P2 was implemented while in some other rates the increase was only P1 even if the distance in kilometers are almost the same.
Vice Mayor Norma Patalinghug and members of the city council agreed to conduct further study of the petition and discuss next week during the council regular session. - Jose P. Sollano
