Sellon appointed as city prosecutor

-
Any time this week, newly appointed city prosecutor Nicolas Sellon will take his oath to formalize his position.

Sellon, who will take his oath before Regional State Prosecutor Antonio Arellano, has been the acting city prosecutor since last February 22 following the resignation of city prosecutor Ceasar Tajanlangit. He received his formal appointment last Tuesday afternoon.

"I'd like to formulate plans with prior consultation with fiscals and the entire staff," Sellon told reporters yesterday on how he would handle his office with his formal appointment.

Sellon said he would still continue handling murder cases like those against former policeman Guillermo Wapille and cult leader Ruben Ecleo Jr. He is currently a member of the prosecution panel in both cases.

"By virtue hereof, you may qualify and enter upon the performance of the duties of the office, furnishing this office and the Civil Service Commission with copies of your oath of office," stated Sellon's appointment, which was signed by President Gloria Macapagal-Aroyo.

With his formal appointment, Sellon said he still could not implement the 90-day suspension on Assistant City Prosecutor Mary Ann Castro, saying he has no authority to do so.
