Cebu, Talisay brgys in boundary dispute

While 53.44 hectares of the South Reclamation Project has become a controversy for Cebu City and Talisay City, another boundary settlement dispute could mean trouble for the two neighboring cities.

This time its barangay Manipis of Talisay City versus barangay Sinsin of Cebu City over a 12-hectare property.

Manipis barangay captain Ramil Manayon said the barangay council passed a resolution asking the city council to do a ground survey and boundary delineation of the area.

Manayon is claiming the property the sitio Latawan, which is now in the possession of Sinsin, encroached the agricultural land, which bounded by northern part of Toledo and Cebu. Manayon argued the area is part of his barangay and not Sinsin based on the boundary monument delineation records and documents.

Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez is set to create a composite team to investigate the validity of Manayon's claim. Manipis will shoulder part of the expenses for the re-survey.

Sinsin barangay captain Aurelio Laspoña was not available for comment, but Cebu City planning officer Nigel Villarete said the boundary dispute can be settled in a proper forum. - Garry B. Lao
