Frat man survives assault

Less than a week after an Alpha Kappa Rho member was shot to death on Aznar Road, another member was wounded in his foot in a fraternity-related assault at 2am yesterday in barangay Guadalupe where a 14-year-old girl was hit on the leg.

The Akrho member, identified as Clifford Delos Reyes, suffered a gunshot wound on his left foot while the girl, who was on her way to buy snacks, was wounded in her left leg. Both victims were immediately treated in hospital and are now out of danger. The incident occurred a few meters from the Guadalupe Church mortuary where the wake of Akrho member Janele Espinoza was being held. Espinoza was attacked and shot last Monday on Aznar Road and later died at the hospital.

Initial findings of homicide investigators and Guadalupe policemen showed that Delos Reyes was having a drinking spree with fellow Akrhos by the roadside of J. Labra Street when a green AUV arrived and parked a few meters from them.

Several men then disembarked from the vehicle, approached and opened fire at the group of Delos Reyes who quickly scampered away. Delos Reyes and a girl were hit however while the attackers rushed back to their car, which then sped off toward V. Rama Avenue and disappeared.

Police said the perpetrators were armed with guns of still undetermined caliber but recovered from the scene were three spent shells of 9mm bullets and a deformed slug of a yet unknown caliber of a gun.

Few minutes after, the police picked up a nursing student from Pit-os, Talamban for questioning but released him however after witnesses said he was not among the attackers and his car was different.

But the student was made to undergo a paraffin test with his promise to produce his vehicle when police need further verification.

Witnesses had identified only two of the gunmen, allegedly with names of Roel and Luis, both reportedly members of rival Tau Gamma Phi fraternity.

In the Espinoza killing, two Tau Gamma members were also eyed as the suspects but the police are presently gathering evidences and have yet to confirm their identity.
