The mobile unit of the Mandaue City Police Office arrested a man for abusing his five-year-old daughter in sitio Bantayan sa Hari, barangay Looc, Mandaue City yesterday morning.
Neighbors telephoned the police when they saw Jerry Alburo, 35, a resident of the place, beating up her daughter who was placed in a sack and hung on a beam.
PO2 Rodgere Fudoton and PO1 Sandy Baclay arrested Alburo and detained him at the Mandaue City Police Station 1.
Based on the investigation conducted by the Women's Desk of the MCPO, the suspect argued with the police during his arrest, saying that it was his way of disciplining his children and that the police should not meddle in his family's problems.
But the police berated Alburo and informed him that he could be held liable for child abuse with the way he disciplines his children.
The child, who was turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development, was brought to the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for a checkup.
Child abuse charges are being readied against the suspect.
