Bucao yesterday said his proposal stemmed from his observation that many government-designated cars have been used for personal purposes.
"Labeling government-owned transportation with the words "for official use only" constantly reminds the officials using the vehicles that these are strictly and exclusively for official business," Bucao said in his resolution.
Bucao said that government-issued cars in the city were even used in some out-of-town trips and shopping. "This duly informs the public of such use allowing them to be critical of any unauthorized use, thereby discouraging the personal use," he said.
Commission on Audit Circular No. 75-6 regulates the use of government vehicles to conserve fuel and economize expenditures.
Once Bucao's proposal is passed, the mark should be at least three inches on each side of the vehicle and the name of the office will be placed under the mark.
In a separate interview with The FREEMAN, committee on properties chairman Jo Florence Bas lauded Bucao's move, acknowledging that government vehicles should not be used for personal purposes.
"It's a laudable resolution of Councilor Bucao. I'll just wait what my committee can do if his resolution will be referred to my committee," Bas said.
