Americans to discuss law enforcement with police, local officials

- Ryan P. Borinaga -
Three Americans who belong to the United States Assessment Management team are expected to arrive in Cebu City at noon today to discuss law enforcement with the police and local officials.

Acting city police director Melvin Gayotin told reporters yesterday the assessors will be onboard a plane from Mindanao and would have a briefing of their activity here at the Regional Police Office.

From there, they would proceed to Camp Sotero Cabahug to see the situation for themselves, in order to come up with recommendations particularly in terms of security measures.

Then they would meet with Mayor Tomas Osmeña at city hall for a courtesy call and later indulge in a consultative conference with members of various non-government organizations.

Gayotin said the move is a form of assistance extended by the US government in strengthening security measures that would give emphasis on anti-terrorism concerns as well.

Meanwhile, the awarding of plaque of appreciation to the seven-man-team responsible for the capture of Ruel Rey Torres did not push through yesterday morning due to discrepancies in the names of the recipients.

Torres who is considered to be the region's most wanted personality having been tagged to a series of robberies in Metro Cebu was arrested by an elite team of operatives from the city police led by Supt. Paul Labra in Monte Alegre, Aurora town, Zamboanga del Sur last week.

The members of the team were Chief Inspector Marlou Martinez, Inspector George Ylanan, SPO2 Harvey Gomonit, SPO1 Adonis Dumpit, PO2 Arman Alega and PO2 Milo Arriola.
