Eng'r may face raps over fake SRP passes

- Ryan P. Borinaga -
An engineer may face charges of falsification of public documents as well as forgery for possessing fake passes for the South Reclamation Project.

The passes, confiscated the other day, bore the name of Engineer Fred Cruse who is said to be from Talisay City and whose identification pass was reproduced into three copies.

Operatives from the City Traffic Operation Management recovered Cruse's original pass and the three reproduced others at the entrance of the SRP Tuesday afternoon.

Over 10 fake SRP passes were recovered the other day and are now in the possession of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Branch chief Paul Labra, who is expected to meet with city attorney Rodolfo Golez to discuss what appropriate charges are to be filed against the violators.

He said a case would be filed against Cruse and other violators, whose passes carry different pictures.

The confiscation of the fake SRP passes came after policemen launched a stricter measure following reports that counterfeit ones have been sold for P100 each.

The fake SRP passes, which reportedly were manufactured in Mandaue City, are being sold in Talisay City but Labra said they are still conducting an investigation into the matter.

Labra said the fake ones are blurred with light color, some are even reproduced through a computer scanner, and carry different signature of Mayor Tomas Osmeña.

Meanwhile, PO1 Rolito Estrobo, who was linked by a man who allegedly extorted money from motorists passing through the SRP, was transferred to Mandaue City Police Office yesterday.

Labra confirmed that Estrobo requested for his transfer because he was from Mandaue City. But Labra said the controversy had nothing to do with Estrobo's transfer because the alleged extortionist had already cleared the name of the policeman.
