Love triangle caused rift between Torres, Limotan
June 20, 2005 | 12:00am
The reason behind the break up between suspected robbers Ruel Rey Bernes Torres and Danny Limotan, is not being attributed to the stolen .45 cal pistol or to the unequal distribution of loot.
Like a television soap opera, the cause of the animosity between the two notorious personalities was a developing love triangle involving a certain Leneth, who was said to be Limotan's fiancée.
"Armas ba uy, dili na tinuod. Nag-away sila kay giuyab ni Torres ang uyab ni Danny," a source told The FREEMAN. The love triangle angle also came out in the recent police intelligence report.
According to the source, Torres' "penchant for women of others" angered Limotan because he felt betrayed by Torres, whom he was with in eight robbery incidents in Cebu.
Three days ago, The FREEMAN found out from the inbox of Torres' Nokia 3315 mobile phone seized by investigators that he has four other girlfriends. Last Saturday afternoon, one of Torres' girlfriends asked if he could talk to him because she missed him and was worried over his condition at the hospital.
Limotan used to be the co-leader of Torres' robbery group, whose members include Nardo Abapo, Benny Tubigon, Lademir Gamanay, Tito Jayme, and Junard Saladaga. Police authorities admitted that those who broke away with Limotan still pose a headache to them, saying that there is a need to determine the members of the group who are now bonding together. Torres was arrested in Monte Alegre, Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur by a seven-man police team from Cebu City Police Office led by Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Branch chief Paul Labra.
Torres was wounded when he shot it out with the lawmen during his arrest. At first, he denied that he engaged in a shootout with the police, but a paraffin examination conducted by the police regional crime laboratory last Thursday revealed that he was positive of powder burns in both hands.
The public, especially the business community, hailed the arrest of Torres, who was dubbed the region's most wanted person.
This morning, police director general Arturo Lomibao will visit Camp Sotero Cabahug to award Chief Inspector Marlou Martinez, Inspector George Ylanan, SPO3 Harvey Gumunit, SPO1 Adonis Dumpit, PO2 Arman Aliga, PO2 Nilo Arriola and Labra, the members of the team that arrested Torres
