The FREEMAN fotog bags grand prize

The FREEMAN's photographer Joy Torrejos was voted the Grand Prize winner in the Mantawi Festival photo contest held last May 7.

The announcement of winners was made only yesterday.

Torrejos' winning photograph depicts the Tribu Kalagan of Surigao del Norte after it won the grand prize in the Mantawi Festival. The photograph also shows one of the tribe members holding an image of San Jose, Mandaue City's patron saint. Torrejos received P20,000 and a trophy.

"I was very happy after the Mandaue tourism office informed me that I had won. But I was shocked because I did not expect I would come out the grand prize winner," Torrejos said.

Aside from Torrejos, Cebu Daily News photographer Alnoe Paller won the first prize in the landmark category. The second prize for the same category went to Nas Laguna while Joseph Calinawan came out the third prize winner.

For the Solemn Procession category, Alex Atillo won both the first and third prizes while the second prize went to Erwin Lim.

Mark Yap, Erwin Lim, and Alex Atillo bagged the first, second and third prizes respectively in the fiesta category. Lim also won the first and second prize for the participant contingent category while Carlito Felicin bagged the third prize. - Wenna A. Berondo
