1. Pinakbet
Filipino homes love pinakbet not only because it’s certified delicious, it’s also budget-friendly with easy-to-find ingredients. This recipe can be traced to the northern regions of the country. Pinakbet is from the Ilocano word: pinakebet, which means shriveled or shrunk.
Over the years, the recipe has evolved. But what remains is the use of a variety of vegetables usually paired with meat such as lechon kawali, and not to be missed, bagoong (shrimp paste) or patis (fish sauce) for its signature taste.
In this recipe, it is still a simple pinakbet prepared with a few ingredients but with the special addition of Knorr Shrimp Cube—which is made with real shrimp!
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp bagoong
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 small red onion
- 3 cloves garlic
- 3 pcs ripe tomatoes
- 2 cups squash, sliced
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 small ampalaya, sliced
- 2 eggplants, sliced
- 8 pcs okra, sliced
- 1 pc Knorr Shrimp Cube
- 2 cups chicharong baboy, crushed
Procedure
- Sauté onions and garlic. Add shrimp paste and tomato. Mix well.
- Add squash, water and Knorr Shrimp Cube for more flavor. Cover and let it cook for 8 to 10 minutes.
- Add ampalaya, eggplant and okra. Mix and cover. Let cook for another 5 to 8 minutes.
- Top with crushed chicharon. Serve warm.
2. Utan Bisaya with Isda
Another recipe that’s a family favorite is the Utan Bisaya with Isda. This recipe only needs a few ingredients with the malunggay as the main star, some leftover fish and your family will have a mouthwatering soup that’s perfect for this rainy season.
Here’s the all-time favorite Utan Bisaya with Isda for the fam’s hot soup craving. We’ll also add real shrimp goodness with Knorr Shrimp Cube.
Ingredients
- 1 pc Knorr Shrimp Cube
- 2L water
- 2 cups kalabasa, cubed
- 2 pcs kamatis, cubed
- 2 cups malunggay leaves
- 1 bundle alugbati leaves
- 2 stalks scallions, sliced
- 2 pcs tanglad, bundled
- 5 pcs okra, medium-sized, cut in half
- 3 pcs fried fish
Procedure
- Boil water and Knorr Shrimp Cube in a pot.
- Add kalabasa and bundled tanglad. Cook until the kalabasa is soft.
- Add okra, tomatoes and fried fish. Let it simmer for 3 minutes
- Add alugbati, malunggay and scallions for another 1 minute.
- Remove from heat and serve.
3. Vegetable Lumpia
Worried what to put into your kids’ lunchboxes that’s not the usual processed food but instead, healthy and very tasty? Try this Vegetable Lumpia. It’s not only affordable and easy to prepare, your kids will also love it! You can prepare the lumpia at night, and fry it the following morning.
Here, we use a secret ingredient, the Knorr Liquid Seasoning, which is the perfect all-around companion in the kitchen. Why? Because it can be used for cooking, marinating and as a dipping sauce
Ingredients
- 1 cup ground pork
- 2 tbsp cooking oil
- 1 pc onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, chopped
- 2 cups togue
- 1 pc carrots, sliced into strips
- 1 pc sayote, sliced into strips
- lumpia wrapper
- Knorr Liquid Seasoning
Procedure
- Sauté onions and garlic. Add ground pork. Sauté for a few minutes before adding the sayote and carrots.
- Add just the right amount of Knorr Liquid Seasoning then add the togue. Sauté the vegetables until cooked through.
- Once cooked, remove from heat and set aside to cool.
- Place about 2 tablespoon of the cooked vegetables into the wrapper and roll. Make sure that both ends are sealed and folded properly to avoid having vegetable spilling from the side when frying.?
- Fry in a pre-heated pan with oil and cook until golden brown. Drain of excess oil and serve with Knorr Liquid Seasoning as dip!
4. Escabeche
When you think that escabeche is only for the rich, here’s how you can have yours that’s 10 on the taste and perfect for the budget!
The secret? Knorr Chicken Cube for a flavorful finish!
Ingredients
- 1/2 kg whole fish
- Vegetable oil for deep frying
- 3 cloves garlic, sliced thinly
- 1 pc onion, sliced
- 2 pcs red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 pc small ginger, sliced
- 1 medium carrot, sliced
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 (115g) pack pineapple tidbits
- 1 pc Knorr Chicken Cube
- 1 tbsp white vinegar
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 2 tbsp cornstarch dissolved in 1 cup water
- Knorr Liquid Seasoning
Procedure
- First, fry the fish and set it aside.
- Sauté garlic, ginger and onion. Add bell pepper and carrot.
- Add the fried fish. Mix it with the spices for 2 minutes before adding the dissolved cornstarch, tomato paste and Knorr Chicken Cube. Let it simmer for 2 minutes.
- Add Knorr Liquid Seasoning, pineapple tidbits, vinegar and sugar. Let it simmer for 5 minutes and serve.
5. Monggos (Ginisang Monggo)
When there’s leftover fish from the night before, a mother can always find ways what to do with it. And for sure, it will be something delicious just like this Ginisang Monggo recipe!
Here’s a pro mom tip. You can add a different flavor with various Knorr Cubes. Our choice is the Knorr Pork Cube, which provides the goodness of 1kg pork, but you can also try the chicken or beef flavors depending on your preference.
Ingredients
- 1/4 kg whole mongo beans
- 2L water
- Leftover fried fish
- 30g vegetable cooking oil
- 4 cloves garlic, mashed
- 1 medium-sized onion, chopped
- 2 medium-sized red tomatoes, chopped
- 2 pcs Knorr Pork Cube
- 1 ampalaya, sliced thinly
- 1 cup malungay leaves
- 1 cup chicharong baboy, crushed
Procedure
- Soak the mongo beans in water for at least 1 hour.
- Place the mongo beans into the boiling water. Turn off the heat when the beans are soft.
- Drain the water until all that’s left are the soften beans. Crush the soften beans. Set it aside.
- Sauté garlic, onions and tomatoes in a pan for about 2 minutes. Add the left over fried fish (strips, bones removed).
- Add the ampalaya, mix well. Then add crushed mongo beans and 1 cup of water. Mix, and then add the Knorr Pork Cubes.
- Add 1 liter of water and let it simmer for 5 minutes.
- Once the ampalaya is tender, add the malunggay leaves, cover and turn off heat. Serve with crushed chicharong baboy on top.
