Moalboal: World-Class Adventure Destination

Archie Modequillo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  For those who are searching for unforgettable destinations with thrilling activities to satisfy their adventurous side, TripAdvisor®, the world’s largest travel site, and Ford have partnered to list extraordinary adventure destinations across Asia Pacific. The list is aimed at encouraging explorers to discover the amazing locations around them. And Cebuanos are blessed to have one such location.

“We know that travelers want to discover new places that are off the beaten track when they’re looking for adventure,” said Janice Lee Fang, TripAdvisor’s Communications Director for Asia Pacific. “[The list consists of] the more popular ones for adventurous road trips that we know, through our data, are already loved by TripAdvisor’s global travel community.”

Home to some of the world’s most extraordinary locales, Asia Pacific offers endless possibilities for those with a sense of adventure. “Our consumer research shows that nearly 50 percent of Ford Everest owners in Asia Pacific are using their vehicles for weekend trips at least once a month. In fact, we also see an increasing trend of people across the region using their SUVs for off-roading,” said Brett Burin, marketing director for Asia Pacific Operations, Ford Motor Company.

Recognizing the growing appeal in adventure getaways, Ford and TripAdvisor partnered to uncover the best “off-road,” “extreme destinations” with “tough roads” using TripAdvisor’s machine in identifying these popular road trip destinations.

In the list is Cebu’s Moalboal town, in the island province’s southwestern tip. Moalboal has something for everyone – sandy white beaches, world-class diving sites and tropical rainforests. The place is brimming with water by its shores, with a mountainous inland covered with dense jungles and divided by rivers and ravines.

Driving to Moalboal from Cebu City is a memorable part of the experience, with 89 kilometers of beautiful coastline to take in from the comfort of one’s vehicle. The most popular must-do experience in the town is spending half a day diving. For accommodation, TripAdvisor’s 2018 Travelers’ Choice Small Hotels lists, at number 13 in the whole Philippines, the nearby The Blue Orchid Resort.

The other adventure destinations listed by Ford and TripAdvisor are Chiang Rai, Thailand; Franz Josef, South Island, New Zealand; Katoomba, New South Wales, Australia; Lhasa, Tibet, China; Lijiang, Yunnan, China; Phuket, Thailand; and Zhangjiajie, Hunan, China.

One of the most exciting parts of driving to any destination is the chance to go off the beaten path and through unexpectedly challenging terrain, so the vehicle needs to have the right off-road capabilities. Features like the Terrain Management System in the Ford Everest give drivers the tools to handle even the toughest terrains, to entice people to go out and explore the world beyond their own backyards.

It would really be a pity for adventure-seeking Cebuanos to miss out on something in their own neighborhood that’s already attracting the rest of the world. Driving to Moalboal offers much more than taking the bus. One can stop and get off at any point to relish something that whets one’s curiosity.
