“Pasundayag” – A Sky High Cultural Experience
CEBU, Philippines - The Philippines is a big favorite of foreign tourists for several reasons – white-sand beaches, warm climate and even warmer people. Visitors are also drawn by the crystal-clear waters of the local seas and the rich local culture. The attractions are endless.
Cebu has always been an important tourist destination in the country. Cebu City is dubbed the “Queen City of the South” and Mactan is a famous resort island. And now Mandaue City is trying to keep up with its two neighbors as well – with a waterpark facility that’s one of its kind hereabouts.
Sky Waterpark Cebu is the first and only waterpark facility in the country that’s located 1,200 feet above the ground, on the 6th floor of JCenter Mall, along A.S. Fortuna Avenue, Mandaue City. And, since its establishment in 2016, it has been pleasantly surprising guests with its added attractions. Recently, it has launched yet another reason to further enrich the guests’ experience – cultural appreciation.
Mr. Simon Yang, vice-president of Sky Waterpark Cebu, relates it to his own experience, “I wanted to travel; I wanted to experience the local culture...” One way to deliver that kind of experience is through entertainment. And so Sky Waterpark Cebu thinks up of “Pasundayag,” an extravaganza highlighting Filipino cultural performance arts.
“Pasundayag” is Visayan word for “show.” At Sky Waterpark Cebu, it’s a show of traditional dances from Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao, and also a Polynesian Fire Dance. The show takes place on a spacious stage set up near the playground and on the bridge of the main swimming pool. It features the best performers from different cultural troupes in the city.
Traditional musical instruments, played live, accompany the dance numbers. At one point of the show, guests are invited to dance the “Tinikling” with the performers. The 45-minute show ends in a fireworks display.
“Pasundayag” presently runs every Friday, although it will eventually be presented three times a week. The show price is inclusive of buffet dinner with a variety of stations: grills, salads and fruits. Both foreign tourists and local diners are welcome. (FREEMAN)
