"130 Million Steps to Fight Breast Cancer"

CEBU, Philippines - About 200 brave souls took the challenge to be a part of the "130 Million Steps to Fight Breast Cancer" on October 23 at the city's Plaza Independencia. The event was a campaign initiated manufacturer and marketer of beauty and related products, Avon Philippines.

Research suggests that breast cancer ranks no. 1 among all cancers in the country. For most Filipino women, there is still a general lack of information on breast cancer. There are a lot of misconceptions among them. They keep away from seeking medical help thinking that medical treatment costs so much. Truth is, at an early stage the costs need not be much.

Breast cancer awareness is an effort to raise consciousness and reduce the stigma of breast cancer through education on symptoms and treatment. Better information will lead to earlier detection of breast cancer, which is associated with higher long-term survival rates, and that money raised for breast cancer will produce a steadfast, lasting cure.

The participants in the anti-breast cancer event 'pledged' steps to the cause by using the free Avon 130 Million Steps Pedometer App. The campaign aimed to raise 130 million steps for the whole month of October.

By sharing daily step achievements on Facebook and inviting friends to join the #130MillionSteps challenge, everyone can help create more awareness for the cause. The application is available for free on the Google Play Store and App Store.
