Golden Prince is 10 years old
To mark an auspicious occasion, the 10th anniversary of Golden Prince Hotel and Suites, the management, on the last day of the celebration, presented Asia's Queen of Songs, the incomparable Cebu-born Pilita Corrales, in a one-night concert dubbed as "Bulawanong Dekada" held at the Grand Ballroom of the hotel. It was a "standing room only" event because of the unexpected drove of Pilita's fans that came without reservation.
Before the well-loved Pilita was presented, the young bespectacled president of Golden Prince Hotel, Benedict "Benny" Que, with that boyish tilt in his eyes, warmly welcomed all the guests while they were partaking of the gourmet dinner. But before Pilita took the center stage, the "under cards," young singers Stephanie Patana, Selina Sevilla, and Kim and Kwin Artist dished out an all-entertaining set of songs of today.
At exactly 9 p.m., Pilita emerged in a sexy black lace gown with a slit in front (ala Angelina Jolie), and started to warble marvelous ditties of yesteryears. To us, Pilita was great. Her showmanship was as spectacular as ever. After 10 songs, she came down to the audience's tables and bid them to join her in singing songs old and new. With our dear friend Sony Alonso, who is Pilita's BFF, we had our photo shoot with her as well as the whole audience, young and old.
After Pilita rendered more than what a concert artist could ever do, as her finale, she belted out the most requested song of the evening, "Pobreng Alindahaw" where everyone in the audience participated in singing this popular Visayan song. And this… she brought the house down, and earned her a standing ovation! Albeit people shouted "encore," the exhausted Pilita proceeded to make an exit to Bulawan and had her fill; she said, "Sorry, but I am hungry!"
With that splendiferous success of Pilita's concert, we still can say, "At 52, Pilita is still great!" Thanks to the big boss, Benny Que and the management of Golden Prince Hotel and Suites for bringing Pilita once again to our shores!
