Fitness Tips from a Tri-athlete doctor
CEBU, Philippines - Among many people, getting better year after year takes consistent effort - from eating healthier, being active, to excelling at school or at work all at the same time.
Since age 12, Dr. Ian Banzon has always been a passionate athlete while keeping at above-average in academics back at school. She has since become a full-pledged, Master's Degree holder in Business Administration and has competed with the Philippine water polo team in the Southeast Asian Games. Just recently, she completed her medical degree at the Ateneo de Manila University.
A go-getter and driven by her passion for sports and fitness, Dr. Ian doesn't rest on her laurels and, instead, wants to explore and learn more things. Being a firm advocate of healthy and active lifestyle, she is unstoppable in sweating it out - even during her monthly period. This dedicated multi-sport, endurance and CrossFit athlete keeps going, with the help of a reliable sanitary napkin.
"With my very active lifestyle, I need a high-quality feminine pad to keep me protected and comfortable," she said. "I use Jeunesse Anion. Its five variants are well suited for different types of flow. For women athletes like me, there's the ultra day pad that unbelievably stays in place despite the activities that we do."
"And the Anion strip is a unique feature that keeps me fresh, since it prevents bacteria buildup," she added.
On the question of whether or not exercising is okay for a woman having her period, Dr. Ian emphasizes that, in fact, it is not an excuse for slacking. "Do some low-key yoga or a light cardio workout like walking or a breezy bike ride," she suggests. "Although you might feel particularly out of sorts, push yourself forward because exercise gives you a natural endorphin high to elevate your mood and make you feel better."
"An added bonus is getting relief from bloat, since sweating helps you get rid of extra fluids," she points out. Dr. Ian says that people want to have personal trainers, but they can actually get started on the active lifestyle on their own, even without particular background in sports o fitness training. "You just need to show up [at the gym], workout, and be consistent with it!"
