Freeman Cebu Lifestyle

Master-Class Fashion

Yasunari Ramon Suarez Taguchi - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - ebu may be small, but its fashion circuit teems with variety. And that's only for starters. The real amazement of this small, old city is its pool master-class fashion designers.

The fashion talent that abounds in the city is evident at the fashion events that are often the highlights of big local celebrations. One example would be the parade of Cary Santiago creations during the recent "Balik Cebu 2016" homecoming dinner at The Terraces, Ayala Center Cebu, on January 14.

Strictly speaking, the homecoming dinner was not actually a fashion event. It simply features the creations of Cary Santiago, who is definitely one of Cebu's highly acclaimed couturiers.

Each piece the master designer presented didn't need the support of words to communicate its creative worth. The artistry held on its own - very much a Cary Santiago mark. And very much the pride of Cebu.

Well, of course, Cebu's master-class fashion was also seen during the pre-pageant and coronation night of Miss Cebu 2016. During the pre-pageant at The Terraces of Ayala Center Cebu on January 9, Rei Escario got the "Best Funwear Designer" award. Jun Escario won the "Best Designer" award on the coronation night at the Grand Pacific Ballroom of Waterfront Cebu City Hotel.

Another standout during the coronation night was the gown by Philip Rodriguez, worn by the exiting Miss Cebu 2015 Wynonah Buot in her final walk.

There is no doubt that Cebu's local fashion designers are ready for the world. Local but global. (FREEMAN)
