A Celebration of Excellence
CEBU, Philippines – It was an occasion to convey gratitude to industry partners – the CEMEX Customer Convention at the Shangri-La Mactan. Approximately 800 delegates attended the gathering, themed “Voyage,” to be inspired and to enjoy a night of songs and prizes. It was, most of all, a celebration of excellence.
“Everyone in this room is our partner,” acknowledged CEMEX Philippines country president Pedro Palomino. “Working hand in hand, we will reach our goals together.”
A recent noteworthy achievement by the company was the inauguration of the new finish mill at the Apo Cement Plant in Naga City, Cebu. The construction of the new mill generated 800 local jobs and increased the production capacity of the cement plant. Palomino pointed out, “At CEMEX we measure our achievements not only in terms of growing the business, but also by how much we positively contribute for the country’s future.”
The CEMEX Customer Convention showcased the company’s milestones in offering building solutions such as cement, ready-mix concrete, aggregates, pavements, and housing. The event also featured top-notch talents. World-renowned Cebuano furniture designer Kenneth Cobonpue talked about Filipino pride and the importance of creativity, stressing the need to continuously innovate to create newer and purposeful products.
Cobonpue’s designs are known the world over for their trademark use of locally sourced materials. Time Magazine called him “rattan’s first virtuoso.” furniture has impressed Hollywood celebrities, including couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, and even members of royalty.
Broadcast Journalist Atom Araullo partnered with CEMEX Corporate Communications Analyst Grace Muncada in hosting the program. Stand-up comedian Eri Neeman had the audience laughing with his jokes, adding a round of sing-along games and interactive charades to his humor.
The finest in the Philippine music industry were also present. Maestro Ryan Cayabyab played classics on the piano and CEMEX’s very own talents sang their hearts out with him. Divine Diva Zsa Zsa Padilla and Jet Pangan rendered old and new OPM favorites; while Concert Queen Pops Fernandez and Hajji Alejandro wowed the crowd with songs from famous local and international belters.
