Though still on its beta stage (or testing phase), the functional upsides of the "AwSMS" messaging suite already makes it a noteworthy alternative to the default messaging app of most Android phones.

Developed by GHerrm, it's the messaging app's in-depth customization options that makes it stand out from others - allowing its users to customize contact avatar colors and to customize the color headers of conversations, among others.

The app also features an automatic "night mode" view (based on a device's time) and also comes with a unique "heads up" quick reply notifications setup - besting the features of the default Android messaging app.
