CEBU, Philippines - “Cine Europa 18” opened in Cebu on Friday last week, October 9, with the screening of a romantic comedy titled “Christmas Miracles in Prague.”

The opening film is  directed by Lena Kny and stars Mexican actors Aislinn Derbez and Dolores Heredia alongside Czech actors Libuse Safrankova and Josef Abrham. It’s the story of two families embarking on a pilgrimage from Mexico to Prague – in the hopes of receiving Christmas blessings from the iconic Sto. Niño de Prague; the brother icon of Sto. Niño de Cebu. “Christmas Miracles in Prague” is the Czech Republic entry in this year’s European film festival.

The three-day “Cine Europa 18” in Cebu had 20 movies from 18 European countries shown at the cinema theaters of Ayala Center Cebu, from October 9 to 11. The festival kicked-off in Metro Manila on September 10 to 20. The free screenings then went to Baguio on September 22 to 27, then in Iloilo on September 29 to October 4. From Cebu, “Cine Europa 18” went to Zamboanga from October 13 to 18, and then to Tacloban on October 21 to 25.

On its 18th year, Cine Europa embraces the theme “Coming of Age” – centering on stories that depict the diversity of European culture, experiences and traditions. (YRST)
