CEBU, Philippines – The “12th Moonwalk: A Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness” took place yesterday, October 3, starting at 5:30 p.m. Participants, who were mostly in pink, assembled earlier at 5 p.m., at Plaza Sugbo fronting the Cebu City Hall.

The media invitation that was distributed prior to the event mentioned a pre-event program at Plaza Sugbo, with breast cancer survivors giving testimonies of their experience with the disease.  A “Celebrate Life with Mega Cebu” program was also scheduled at Plaza Independencia following the walk.

Veteran actor Tirso Cruz III was also scheduled to speak on his struggle in 2014 against lung cancer. Cebu City Administrator Lucelle Mercado and City Councilor Lea Japson had commited to attend, as well.

“Moonwalk: A Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness” is a unique collective advocacy campaign focused on early screening and detection of breast cancer through monthly breast self-examination and mammography.

This year’s Moonwalk was organized by RAFI-EJACC in partnership with the Cebu City Government through its Task Force Cancer, Department of Health 7, Destiny Medical Fund Incorporated, Goldilocks, Philippine Spring Water Resources Inc., Alcordo Advertising, Cebu Cancer Fight Incorporated, I CAN SERVE Foundation, and CAN with GOD.
