Quiet Time with Mateo
Have a Ball!
It was a holiday. Teo and his friends excitedly biked their way to the Umingan Gymnasium to play basketball. Abe sat on the backseat of Teo’s bike while Carding sat on the backseat of Badong’s bike.
“Wait!” Teo said, suddenly braking beside a man slumped on the sidewalk.
“Teo, don’t stop, we need to borrow a basketball from the barangay hall!” Badong and Carding bellowed, biking away.
“He’s drunk, Teo,” Abe said. “Let’s go!”
But Teo approached the man and asked. “What’s wrong, Sir?”
“Uuuuh…” the man moaned. He didn’t smell of liquor at all!
The boys were puzzled. “Maybe he’s hungry – I’ll give him my orange juice!” Abe said, helping the man drink, Teo fanned the man with his cap.
“Oh, I feel better now,” the stranger said, sitting up.
A big car suddenly stopped by the curb and the driver rushed out, “Mr. Reyes, Sir…what happened?!”
“I was taking photos when I suddenly felt dizzy.”
Now inside the car, Mr. Reyes asked, “Your names, boys?”
“Teo, po.”“Abe, po.”
“Here, Teo and Abe,” he handed them a huge box before leaving. “Thank you for being so kind!”
Pasted on the box was a card: D.D. Reyes, President, Reyes Sports Equipment. Inside the box were a volleyball, a baseball, a soccer ball, and a basketball!
Prayer:
Lord, please bless those who go out of their way to be kind to others. Amen.
Memory Verse:
“My whole being, praise the Lord. Do not forget all his kindnesses.” Psalm 103:2
