Performance Tidbits

CEBU, Philippines - The nightly presentations leading to Danao City's recent fiesta celebration opened with a bang with a performance by the DepEd Danao City Division. The Broadway presentations proved to be one of the best-loved performances in the whole stretch of the festivities.

Danao City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Rosalie Pasaol spearheaded the endeavour, supported by all principals and coordinators. The result were six big production numbers from the South, East, North and West Districts, comprising the Elementary department and two groups representing the Secondary level performers.

It was quite an ambitious concept, requiring dancing, singing and acting; with the performers having to portray characters and depict certain scenes. Of course, everyone had also to contend with the limitations of the stage area considering the number of performers and the necessary sets. The repertoire included scenes inspired from "Phantom of the Opera," "South Pacific," "Jesus Christ Superstar," "A Chorus Line," "The King and I," and "Cats."

City Mayor and Hon. Ace Durano graced the occasion.

Cebu Mary Immaculate College (CMIC) concluded its "Dancefest 2014" at SM Consolacion Cebu on September 27. This included the presentation and selection of "Little Mr. and Ms." and "Mr. and Ms. CMIC." Confidence and personality, not towering height of the high school candidates, made two intermediate level boys - Lemuel Daniel S. Villa and Francis Niño R. Rondez - to land in the top and second spots, respectively, for the "Mr. CMIC" category.

Three categories - Preschool to Grade two, Grades Three to Six, and Grades Seven to Nine - vied for the win in the Modern Pop Dance Contest. Students from both Talamban and D. Jakosalem campuses did great performances. The show was hosted by Mary Rose Villacastin-Maghuyop.

The CHED-accredited Mandaue City College (MCC), under the administration of Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes, successfully held its PE Culminating Activity at the SM City Cebu Activity Center last Monday, October 6.

The activity was supported by MCC administration under the leadership of College Administrator Dr. Teresa Inot, Assistant College Administrator for Academics Dr. Leo Acibar, and School of Arts and Sciences Dean Raymundo Villanueva. The different contests among the PE students were judged by Dr. March Mandal (Pajo Elementary School), Mr. Rolito Imperial (CTU Moalboal), Ms. Loe Singzon (CIT) and Mr. Deo Generalao (CTU Carmen Campus). The MCC Cultural Troupe, Human Kinetics and All-Stars also performed.

MCC believes in output-based education, immersing students into the real world for first-hand experience of what it feels like to actually perform onstage before a real crowd. Many other learning institutions practise the same principle to expose students to experiences beyond the four walls of the classroom. (FREEMAN)
