“Boodle on the Boat”

Yasunari Ramon Suarez Taguchi - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Set some five kilometers east of Mactan, the Olango group of islands has long held a distinction in being one of Cebu’s major tourist destinations – where the assertions of urban life lose their vivid quality of action to the island group’s sublime azure-aquamarine seas.

Like the enigmatic half-smile that proudly stands as the last word in beauteous sophistication, the beauty of Olango and its neighboring islands – Sulpa, Gilutongan, Nalusuan, Caohagan, Pangan-an and Camungi – can never be found in elaborate simulacrums or in richly detailed descriptions – as their true majesty can only be perceived by one’s own senses.

Be Resorts Mactan – in offering its novel take on the “boodle fight” experience – affords locals and visitors with the chance to experience the wonders of the islands Gilutongan and Sulpa for themselves, in its recently introduced “Boodle on the Boat.”

Essentially an offshoot of the resort’s “Boodle on the Beach” previously, Be Resorts’ “Boodle on the Boat” is a day-long island hopping tour that entails island stopovers to Gilutongan and Sulpa, punctuated by a boodle fight experience onboard an outrigger.

Groups of four up to 25 can sign up for the tour, whose inclusions covers two island visits, a boodle fight-themed lunch sets (each set is good for 5 to 6), complimentary drinks, and the use of fish feeding and snorkeling equipment.

There’s an option of whether to go for the tour’s “Sunny Seaside” or “Big Beach” boodle sets – where the Sunny Seaside set includes grilled pork, chicken, shrimp and more; while the Big Beach set includes mainstay Cebuano favorites like crispy pata, grilled chicken, bangus and more.

As one of the resort’s unique offerings to both Cebu’s locals and visitors, Be Resorts’ “Boodle on the Boat” essentially merges two of the top things to do in Cebu – visit the beach and sample the scrumptious local fare.
