Everyday Bag Essentials: The Things Women Must Have in Their Bags

Justine Therese Juntilla - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Women love handbags. They put a lot of stuff in them that would sometimes make others question: "How did you fit all of those in there?" Women fill their handbags with little but very necessary items.

It is highly advisable to check as often as possible the "weaponry" the pack in their bags. Like with any necessary supplies, items need to be replenished if need be or ascertained if they're there in the first place. Phones are out of the question since everyone couldn't leave the house nowadays without it.

But many other items are just as important. They need to be at hand to save the day if ever a sticky situation occurs.

1.            "Lippies"

A woman should always have lipstick in her bag. It comes in handy whenever the lips need some retouching. It's a no-brainer actually. Also make sure to have at least a lip balm or a lip gloss since these prevent the lips from cracking.

2.            Sanitary Pads

It doesn't hurt to be prepared for the monthly cycle to come. A woman-on-the-go, especially, wouldn't want to be caught in a sticky situation on this.

3.            Emergency Money

Slipping a certain amount of money into a safe pocket of the bag is a practice that women should keep at. There will be situations where you'll either run out of money or need more than you have in your wallet.

4.            Wipes of any kind

Whether it's to wipe stain and dirt or cover your nose whenever you need to sneeze, a tissue or wet wipes is always useful.

5.            Travel-sized Essentials

Perfume, powder, lotion, sanitizer etc. are essentials to have. For a woman, it's important to stay and look fresh all day. Thus, a retouch is needed now and then. Make sure to pack pocket-sizes and put them together in a pouch.

6.            Compact Mirror

Of course, retouching requires a mirror. And sometimes, there won't be any mirror around in the place where you are. It's good to be ready with one.

7.            Notebook and Pen

For a working girl especially, a pen and a small notebook always come in handy whenever an impromptu note-taking is needed.

8.            Pocket Mints

It pays to keep the breath fresh especially when working in a group of people. Whether it's mint candies or gums, having a few pieces in the bag help quickly refresh one's breath.

9.            Hair Clips and Ties

Sometimes the hair gets blown by the wind that you just have to tie it up. It's nice to be prepared in situations like this to avoid a so-called "bad hair day."

10.          Headache Meds

When stress strikes, headaches often occur. It could get in the way of a good and productive day. Keeping a pill or two for headache relief is always a good idea.

11.          Contact Information / ID

Be prepared in case of an emergency. At least make it possible for people to know who to contact for you.

12.          Handy Self-defense Items

Life is strewn with dangers, especially the cities. Always be ready with a pepper spray or a pocket knife just in case unwanted people come in your way.

13.          Lighter / Matches

Did you know that lighting a match when you're "letting go" in the bathroom eliminates the odor? Well, other than that, carrying a lighter or a match is helpful in lighting a candle or getting rid of a loosened thread in your blouse. You'll never know when you need it.

14.          Safety Pins

Whether it's a destroyed zipper, a lost button in the blouse or when a bag strap suddenly detaches itself from the bag, safety pins can save the day.

15.          Band Aids

Ah, band aids. Accidentally cut yourself with something? Have a band aid. You need it, always.

Have these items in your bag - and you're good to go!
