Mövenpick Cebu gets Green Globe Certification, the first in the Philippines
CEBU, Philippines - Mövenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu recently made history by being the first hotel in the country to receive the Green Globe Certification (GGC), the world's premier sustainability certification for the travel and tourism industry.
In a gathering held in Mövenpick on February 24, Green Globe CEO Guido Bauer presented the certificate to Mövenpick Cebu General Manager Knuth Kiefer.
The hotel also got Green Globe's Sustainability Leadership Award for pioneering the Green Globe international standard in Cebu and in the Philippines.
"Mövenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu made the difference between talking about sustainability and having sustainability certified by an independent third party against an international standard," said Guido Bauer.
"The hotel has scored in the top 15 percent of all Green Globe certified hotels worldwide," Bauer added.
With Mövenpick Hotel's Green Globe certification, the Philippines is now one of the 93 countries that have Green Globe certified hotels and businesses, each intent on championing the best practices of eco-conservation and sustainability in their day-to-day operations.
