CEBU, Philippines - The Kalunasan Barangay Council approved on Dec. 14 OPRRA Elementary School's request for financial assistance for its participation in the 2013 Regional Schools Press Conference.

The council, which is composed of Barangay Captain Nunilon Monares, Jr., and the barangay councilmen Marvin Leyson, Carlito Ceniza, Ledesma Tamayo, Nestor Gabunada,  Edelito Mabano, Jean Guinto, and Juvy Lopez granted the P18,000 budget request during their first regular session at the Kalunasan barangay hall.

The proposal to grant the school's request was put into motion by Ceniza, who heads the committee on education. He said that he pushed the proposal because the school, with its excellent students, inspired him a lot.

The said amount is requested by the school for the registration fee for its 10 campus journalists and two school paper advisers who will participate in the Regional Schools Press Conference in Naga City on Dec. 26 to 29.

Councilman Tamayo, who heads the committee on Gender and Development (GAD), made the motion to allocate the amount from the unused GAD fund in the fiscal year 2013.

According to Tamayo, one of the programs of GAD is to promote the development of the youth especially in honing their talents and skills.

"The barangay council is happy and proud of the school's achievements. We support them all the way," said Tamayo.

"Dako jud ni kaayo nga tabang sa atoang eskwelahan. Thank you to the barangay council," said Esterlita Tuadles, the PTA president.  (FREEMAN)
