UVNS and the Dan Matutina Digital Illustration Workshop
CEBU, Philippines - Dan Matutina - co-founder of the design collective known as Plus63 Design Co - recently joined the University of the Visayas New School of Art & Design's (UVNS) growing roster of mentors, heading a three-day Digital Illustration Workshop held last October 18 to 20 in the UVNS Campus in Banilad.
Organized by UVNS with the support of Havaianas, Chillage and the Henry Hotel, more than 15 students and industry professionals were present during the occasion, who each learned about how important basic visual design elements are in imparting a visually compelling message, apart from the crucial role they play in the creation distinctly unique visual tableaus.
Though intent on focusing on the inner workings and dynamics of the digital illustration practice, the workshop's curriculum didn't anchor its participants to computers and graphics-creation software, also requiring them to create visuals using scissors, rulers, pieces of colored paper and other on-hand materials - staying true to the "hands-on" fundamental principles of visual design.
By covering the basics, the workshop stood by UVNS' goals in immersing and leading its students in the creation of quality, timely and relevant designs.
