It’s No Longer Fun in the Philippines
CEBU, Philippines - I came across this really interesting article which was titled: "It's More Chaos in the Philippines", and I couldn't help but agree.
The past few months have been crazy for our country. I feel like every single day there's bad news that we have to listen to and just simply deal with, whether we like it or not. It's not nice having to wake up from a really good sleep and only to listen to crazy news on the television the next morning; from robbery, killings, bad accidents, to heartless human-trafficking & cybersex problems involving minors. Those are just a few of the recent events that got our heads spinning. Then, we have those political issues that never seem to end. Let's start with the PDAF issue: A lot has been said about the Pork Barrel issue, so many opinions have been heard, rallies are being planned every day, and there has already been what everyone knows as the "Million People March", but let me ask you this, did it make a difference? Some of you might say yes, with Ms. Janet Napoles already behind bars, and the government looks like they're actually doing something about it. But are they? I have nothing against the government, and I am not saying that the actions that they are taking are not enough but sometimes I can't help but feel like this "issue" is taking too long, like there is no progress at all, like everyone involved in the investigation is following a script from a director. Maybe this movie will become a blockbuster. I mean, how hard is it to convict those involved when the evidences against them are looking at them straight in the eye? How many whistleblowers will it take for this issue to finally be over? Why do they have to keep digging up for bones when we all know that the dog has already stopped burying them? The issue isn't even dead yet, and our country is faced with yet another one: the alleged distribution of the DAP funds to the senators who were in favor of the impeachment of then Chief Justice Renato Corona.
This issue is affecting not only our economic stability but also our country's security. I look at our lax attitude towards the raging war in Zamboanga and most parts of Mindanao. Numerous innocent citizens lost their lives because of a situation they were too powerless to have control over, therefore the government should done something significant other than ogling over a greedy woman's lust for money.
So what I implore is this: CHANGE! We're just trying to fool ourselves when we say that "It's More Fun in the Philippines" because seriously it no longer is. It would probably be different though if someone stood up and did something about it. I can only hope and wait.
