Organized by the DanceSport Team Cebu International, Inc., a non-stock, non-profit organization geared at promoting DanceSports among the grassroots to transform the youth and help alleviate poverty, DanceSport sa Sugbu has hosted both national and international competitions with linkages from the DanceSport Council of the Philippines and the World DanceSport Federation (formerly International DanceSport Federation), with the support of the Cebu City Sports Commission and the Philippine Sports Commission.

DanceSport Team Cebu City created DanceSport sa Sugbu for the primary purpose of letting these barangay child trainees get a first-hand experience of what it is like joining in a professionally officiated dance competition. The exposure will instill in them self-discipline, self-confidence, and self-worth. This experience will inspire the children to train harder and aspire for a better future.

This competition for a cause is the culmination activity of hundreds of child trainees (mostly under privileged) who were given regular free dancesport workshops and follow-through trainings in Cebu City's 80 barangays including the remote mountainous areas made possible by the untiring and selfless efforts of dance teacher-volunteers.

Over 200 kids (juvenile, junior, youth) from the DanceSport Team Cebu FREE Summer Workshop performed their Culminating Dance at the 6th DanceSport sa Sugbo Opening Program.

DanceSport Team Cebu International, Inc. is the Guinness World Record Holder for World's Largest Dance Class of 7,770 participants.
