Yasunari Ramon Suarez Taguchi - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines -The iCancervive Art Exhibit celebrated its opening last October 3 in Qube Gallery Persimmon Plus, showcasing the works of women artists hailing from Mindanao and the finest creations of Cebu's top furniture designers.

Organized by Qube Gallery, Aboitizland and the Eduardo J. Aboitiz Cancer Center, in cooperation with the Rotary Club of Cebu Rotaract Club and the support of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc., the exhibit essentially bears an eclectic stance in the presentation of its featured artpieces, focusing on austere and controlled aesthetic qualities that are often sought for by artists and art lovers alike.

From contemporary-themed compositions to works made with unconventional mediums, the show manages to illustrate how progressive art in the domestic setting has been, proving that the ribald backlash and caustic commentaries once hurled towards the works of our artistic talents are no longer applicable today.

The soil paintings of Salilma Saway Agra-an and Onanoy Estrada – respectively entitled "Warm Love" and "Sacred Nature Spring" – readily drives this point, standing out as two of the show's worthy-of-mention pieces, each made with the use of soil as an alternative to traditional pigments.

Jana Jumalon-Alano's "Cover Girl" also manages to stand out as one of the exhibit's featured art pieces, combining the compelling elements of thematic contrast with the avant garde inclinations of typography.

The abstract expressionist-inspired "Filter" by Milissa Abuga-a is also one of the show's noteworthy pieces, crafted with a sense of control that is capricious and dedicated at the same time.

As an exhibit, iCancervive also bears a silent auction component, deeming it one as of this year's Pink October highlights, making it more than just a collection of superb art works made by established and on-the-rise artistic talents.

iCancervive will be on exhibit until October 25, 2013 in Qube Gallery Persimmon Plus, located at the Persimmon Plus along MJ Cuenco St., Mabolo. For more information, visit www.qubegallery.com
